Terms and Conditions
Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions govern participation in CLE Abroad® programs and outline the respective responsibilities of CLE Abroad and program participants.
Travel de Novo LLC dba CLE Abroad® (“CLE Abroad”) arranges international travel programs that combine cultural exploration with educational experiences. By registering for or participating in a CLE Abroad program, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to the following Terms & Conditions.
Role of CLE Abroad
CLE Abroad acts solely as an intermediary in arranging travel services for program participants. CLE Abroad does not own, operate, or control transportation providers, hotels, restaurants, guides, venues, or other suppliers of services used in connection with its programs.
Accordingly, CLE Abroad shall not be responsible or liable for any injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity arising from the acts or omissions of any third-party service provider, including but not limited to transportation carriers, accommodations, or other suppliers.
All services and accommodations are provided subject to the terms, conditions, and laws of the country in which they are delivered.
Participants are responsible for their own baggage and personal effects at all times.
Reservations & Payments
Program registration, deposits, payment schedules, and final balances are governed by the terms outlined in the participant’s registration agreement or booking confirmation.
Submission of a program registration constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
CLE Abroad reserves the right to cancel a registration if required payments are not received according to the applicable payment schedule.
Program registrations may be processed through third-party booking platforms used by CLE Abroad.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Cancellation and refund terms are governed by the specific cancellation schedule outlined in each program’s registration materials.
Participants are responsible for reviewing and understanding applicable cancellation deadlines prior to registering. Certain payments may be non-refundable depending on the timing of cancellation and commitments made to program suppliers.
Changes to Itinerary
CLE Abroad reserves the right to modify program itineraries when, in its sole judgment, circumstances require such changes for operational reasons or for the safety, comfort, or convenience of participants.
CLE Abroad programs are designed to provide a carefully curated combination of educational and cultural experiences. While CLE Abroad strives to deliver all program components as described, specific venues, speakers, institutions, accommodations, and activities may vary due to availability, scheduling, or operational considerations.
Reasonable substitutions of accommodations, transportation, guides, speakers, or program activities may be made when necessary. Such modifications shall not constitute grounds for refund.
Program Price Adjustments
Program prices are based on supplier rates, currency exchange conditions, and operational costs at the time of publication.
CLE Abroad reserves the right to adjust program prices in the event of significant increases in supplier costs, taxes, fuel surcharges, government fees, or currency fluctuations beyond CLE Abroad’s control. Participants will be notified of any such adjustments prior to the final payment deadline.
Flight Responsibility
Participants are responsible for arranging their own international and domestic airfare unless otherwise specified.
CLE Abroad is not responsible for airline cancellations, delays, schedule changes, missed connections, or other air travel disruptions. Participants are responsible for ensuring that their flight schedules allow sufficient time to arrive at the program’s starting location.
No refunds or credits will be provided for missed program activities, meals, accommodations, or other program components resulting from late arrival, early departure, or other circumstances outside the control of CLE Abroad.
Participant Responsibilities & Physical Activity
CLE Abroad programs may involve a moderate level of physical activity, including walking extended distances, navigating uneven terrain, and climbing stairs.
Participants are responsible for evaluating their own health, mobility, and readiness for travel prior to participating in a program.
CLE Abroad programs are designed as group travel experiences with a shared itinerary and schedule. Participants are expected to respect group timing, meeting points, and program logistics in order to ensure a smooth experience for all participants.
CLE Abroad reserves the right to decline to accept any person as a participant in a program, or to require any participant to withdraw from a program, if such action is deemed necessary for the health, safety, or overall well-being of the group or the individual participant.
Travel Insurance
CLE Abroad strongly recommends that all participants obtain comprehensive travel insurance.
Travel insurance may provide coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, baggage loss, and other unforeseen circumstances.
Participants are responsible for securing their own insurance coverage and for understanding the terms and limitations of their policy.
Passports, Visas & Entry Requirements
Participants are solely responsible for obtaining valid passports, visas, and any other documentation required for entry into the destination country or countries visited during the program.
Passports must typically be valid for at least six months beyond the date of travel and may require blank visa pages.
CLE Abroad shall not be responsible for costs incurred by participants who are denied boarding or entry due to failure to meet such requirements.
Professional Visits & Educational Programming
Many CLE Abroad programs include meetings, briefings, or visits with courts, law firms, government agencies, universities, embassies, or other institutions.
While CLE Abroad makes every reasonable effort to arrange these experiences as described, all such appointments are subject to confirmation and may be modified, substituted, or canceled due to scheduling changes, institutional policies, or circumstances beyond CLE Abroad’s control.
Institutional Access & Security Policies
Visits to courts, government institutions, embassies, universities, and other official venues are subject to the policies, security procedures, and scheduling requirements of those institutions.
CLE Abroad cannot guarantee access to any specific institution, official, or speaker. Such visits may be modified, substituted, postponed, or canceled due to institutional policies, security considerations, or scheduling changes beyond CLE Abroad’s control.
No refunds shall be provided for program modifications resulting from such changes.
Assumption of Risk
Participation in international travel programs involves inherent risks, including risks associated with transportation, physical activity, unfamiliar environments, differing safety standards, political conditions, and health considerations.
By registering for a CLE Abroad program, participants acknowledge and accept these risks and voluntarily assume responsibility for their participation.
Force Majeure
CLE Abroad shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, severe weather, pandemics, public health emergencies, government actions, labor disputes, strikes, civil unrest, war, terrorism, or transportation disruptions.
In such circumstances, CLE Abroad reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel a program as necessary.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Travel de Novo LLC dba CLE Abroad® shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of participation in a program.
CLE Abroad’s total liability, if any, shall be limited to the amount paid by the participant to CLE Abroad for the applicable program.
Services Not Utilized
No refunds or credits will be issued for any unused program components, including accommodations, meals, transportation, sightseeing, lectures, briefings, or other activities included in the program but not utilized by the participant for any reason.
Independent Activities
Participants who choose to engage in activities that are not part of the official CLE Abroad program itinerary do so at their own discretion and risk.
CLE Abroad shall not be responsible for any injury, loss, damage, delay, or other incident arising from activities undertaken independently of the program.
Medical Care & Emergency Evacuation
Participants are responsible for any medical care, hospitalization, emergency evacuation, or repatriation costs that may arise during participation in a program.
CLE Abroad is not responsible for the cost of medical services or emergency transportation and strongly recommends that participants obtain travel insurance that includes coverage for emergency medical treatment and evacuation.
Local Conditions
Participants acknowledge that travel in international destinations may involve standards of accommodations, transportation, infrastructure, safety, sanitation, and medical care that differ from those found in the United States.
Participants agree to accept these differences as part of the international travel experience.
Minimum Participation Requirement
Certain CLE Abroad programs require a minimum number of participants in order to operate.
If a program does not reach the required minimum participation level, CLE Abroad reserves the right to cancel the program. In such cases, participants will receive a refund of payments made to CLE Abroad for the program, but CLE Abroad shall not be responsible for any additional expenses incurred by participants.
Participant Conduct
CLE Abroad programs are designed to provide a collegial and respectful environment for all participants.
CLE Abroad reserves the right to remove any participant whose behavior is disruptive, unsafe, illegal, or otherwise negatively impacts the experience of the group. In such cases, the participant shall be responsible for any additional expenses incurred and no refund shall be provided.
Photography & Media Release
During CLE Abroad programs, photographs, video recordings, or other media may be captured by CLE Abroad staff, guides, or participants.
By participating in a program, participants grant CLE Abroad permission to use such images or recordings in marketing materials, websites, publications, and social media channels without compensation.
Participants who prefer not to appear in promotional materials should notify CLE Abroad in writing prior to the program.
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to participation in a CLE Abroad program shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California.
Participants agree that any such dispute shall be brought solely on an individual basis and not as part of any class or collective action.
